White Label 2.6.0 for WordPress – Release Notes and Future Updates

The latest release of White Label, version 2.6.0, is out today. This new version of our plugin contains new features for the free edition as well as White Label Pro. For both plugins, we have a slightly modified interface and new features to hide the WordPress version number on your site. In White Label Pro, you can now replace sidebar menu items in the admin with any of the 300+ Dashicons that are bundled with WordPress. We’ll go over these changes in more detail next. Finally, at the end of this post, we’ll discuss some of our plans for White Label in 2023.

New Interface Changes

The White Label interface is getting pretty busy. In an effort to clean things up, the sidebar content on each screen of the plugin’s settings has been removed. Links to that content have been added in a new header bar navigation element instead. We’ll talk about this later in the post but White Label will be seeing a much-improved user experience next year.

Hide WordPress Version Number

Users have requested the ability to hide the WordPress version number from their sites with White Label for a long time. Finally, this feature is now built into each edition of White Label. You can find a new Front End tab in White Label’s settings that lets you remove the WordPress version number from:

  • The Meta Generator
  • RSS
  • Stylesheets
  • Scripts

In addition to the front end, the Visual Tweaks section of White Label lets you hide the version number from the admin footer.

You can learn more about these features by reading our documentation about how to hide the WordPress version number from your site.

Change WordPress Admin Menu Icons

For 2.6.0, White Label Pro has included another way to modify and customize the sidebar admin menu. Now you can replace admin menu icons with any of the 300+ Dashicons that are bundled with WordPress. We went with Dashicons, instead of uploadable images, to make this feature more compatible with customers supporting many clients. It’s simpler to use Dashicons than to keep every client site updated with the proper uploaded media.

You can learn more about how this new feature for White Label Pro works by reading our documentation about how to change a WordPress admin menu icon.

White Label Plans for 2023

This will be the last feature release of 2022 for White Label. We have a lot of features planned for next year but, without getting into specifics, we wanted to go over some general plans for the future.

Next year, we intend to overhaul the interface of White Label from the ground up. In its current state, adding more features and organizing them in a meaningful way is quite difficult. This will require some effort in terms of how data is stored and how features like import and export work so we will be taking our time to make sure it’s done right.

In addition to interface changes, we want White Label to handle modifying popular third-party plugins. We have a short list of plugins to start with. You can probably guess what they are based on what is popular today. For the most part, these third-party plugin white labeling features will be exclusive to White Label Pro as they will require a higher-than-normal amount of maintenance and testing.

So those are the general plans moving forward. As always, if you have any thoughts we’d love to hear from you. Send in your ideas and suggestions with our feedback form.

White Label Pro 2.3.0 for WordPress – Release Notes

The latest release of White Label Pro, version 2.3.0, has been released. White Label Pro has two new features in this release: improvements to removing Dashboard widgets and the ability to disable the administration email verification. These two features have long been requested by our users and we’re happy for them to now be available.

How to Remove Individual Dashboard Widgets

The latest update to White Label Pro includes a new way to remove dashboard widgets. White Label Pro users can now remove dashboard widgets on a case-by-case basis. You can find this feature under the Dashboard tab:

How to Disable the Administration Email Verification

Finally, new in White Label Pro 2.3.0, is the ability to disable the administration email verification screen that WordPress periodically shows to admins during login. You can use White Label Pro to make sure your non-White Label Administrators never see this verification screen. This feature is available under the Miscellaneous tab:

White Label Pro 2.2.0 for WordPress – Release Notes

The latest release of White Label Pro, version 2.2.0, is now available. White Label Pro has a brand new set of features that give you the power to rename menus inside of the WordPress admin. This has been an often requested feature and we’re glad to have it included in White Label Pro.

How to Rename WordPress Admin Menus

Renaming sidebar and admin bar menus is now very simple. The Menus & Plugins interface has been re-worked to allow you to easily rename a menu item like so:

Decide what you want any menu to say, instead of the default text shown, and enter that text in the appropriate field. If you don’t want to change the menu text for a given item just leave the field blank. When you’re done, go to the bottom of the Menus & Plugins screen and press the Save Settings button.

Now your clients will see the brand new menu names the next time they access the admin. Here’s a before and after example using the settings from the screenshot above:

White Label 2.0.0 for WordPress – Release Notes

We are nearing the start of 2020 and we’ve got exciting news! We’ve been working on White Label 2.0 for WordPress for a while now and we are excited to release it! The White Label 2.0 update will be available for everyone on January 1st, 2020 inside the WordPress dashboard.

What’s Included in White Label 2.0?

We’ve completely rebuilt the plugin.

We’ve added administrator options and plenty of new exciting features that will help you take more control over white labeling the WordPress admin area and login page.

Hiding Menus

You can hide WordPress menus from anyone that’s not a White Label Administrator. You’ll now be able to hide menus and any submenus in the admin area of the WordPress dashboard.

This is great for making sure clients or inexperienced admins can only access the settings they need! And helps you prevent accidents from happening!

Multisite Compatible

White Label is now WordPress Multisite Compatible. You’ll be able to white label each site inside a multisite network. Read more about White Label & WP Multisites.

Changes to White Label Pro

White Label Pro is now a standalone plugin, making it simpler to install on client sites! We’ve also added extra features.

White Label Pro was originally an add-on plugin to our free White Label plugin. In the past, you’d need both plugins installed on client sites if you required Pro features. We like to make things simple for everyone, so we’ve made some changes to make White Label Pro a standalone plugin. You just need to install White Label Pro and you are ready to go!

The Free and Pro settings remain in the same database location, so you can freely switch between the plugins without losing your settings.

Features added to White Label Pro only:

  • Remove Admin Bar on the frontend
  • Redirect non-admins to a specific url when they login

Moving Forward

Moving forward, we are committed to creating a nice experience when it comes to using White Label. You’ll notice that every setting and section has an easy-to-understand description. We want to reflect the same experience in our new documentation section while we keep developing and pushing updates.
